Meat Biryani

Cooked Meat Biryani

This cooked meat biryani is a hearty, aromatic rice dish made with tender meat, whole spices and saffron. It’s perfect for family meals and special occasions.

Main Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice – 3 cups
  • Meat (Mutton/Beef/Chicken) – 500 g
  • Onion – 2 medium (sliced)
  • Tomatoes – 2 (chopped)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • Green Chillies – 3–4 (slit)
  • Yogurt – 1/2 cup
  • Whole Garam Masala – (2″ cinnamon stick, 4 cloves, 3 cardamom, 1 bay leaf, 1 star anise)
  • Shahi Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Mint & Coriander Leaves – handful each
  • Cooking Oil / Ghee – 4 tbsp
  • Saffron – a pinch (soaked in 2 tbsp warm milk)
  • Salt – as needed

Preparation Steps

  • Wash and soak the rice for 20 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
  • Marinate the meat with yogurt, ginger garlic paste, salt, and a little biryani masala for 30 minutes.
  • In a large pot, heat oil/ghee and fry onions until golden brown. Set aside a handful for garnishing.
  • Add whole garam masala, green chillies, tomatoes, and the marinated meat. Cook until the meat is tender.
  • In another pot, cook rice with salt, shahi jeera, and a bay leaf until about 70% done. Drain and keep aside.
  • For layering: Spread half of the rice, then the cooked meat masala, followed by the remaining rice.
  • Sprinkle saffron milk, fried onions, mint, and coriander on top.
  • Cover tightly and cook on low heat (dum) for 25–30 minutes.

Serving Suggestion

Serve hot with raita, fresh salad, or a spicy curry on the side.
